Short Range Wireless LAN of the WISPR system
The short range Wireless LAN, of the WISPR intercommunication system, is an alternative and independent mean of communication in conjunction to the vehicles' radio stations. Communication via the Wireless LAN is bi-directional and provides three (3) simultaneous types of services : voice, data and remote control.
Two (2) type of users have access to the Wireless LAN: crewmembers via the vehicle unit (WLCU, Wireless LAN Control Unit) and dismounted soldiers/ team leader with the mobile unit (MCU, Mobile Control Unit.)
Soldiers and vehicles are connected to a common or an autonomous Wireless LAN. Due to the utilized spread spectrum technology, these networks are characterized as Low Probability of Detection (LPD) & Low Probability of Interception (LPI), communication systems. therefore can operate under "radio silence".
